Zeren have extended their partnership with The Times, part of the News UK group of brands, to support their Editorial Platforms team with their hire of a Senior Software Engineer.

The team are situated in the impressive News UK building around the corner from London Bridge station and Borough Market. They tend to get together in the office 2 or 3 times a week depending on project flow.

Currently, The Times is focusing its efforts on enhancing the capabilities of its editorial teams through the constant improvement and development of curation tooling and content APIs. This initiative is crucial as it empowers the team responsible for determining content placement and establishing the overall publishing timeline.

By improving the overall capability and functionality of the editorial team at The Times, they can refine the navigation and reader experience and accelerate the speed of content delivery.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will contribute from day one to improve the Editorial Platform that is crucial in enabling The Times’ world-class journalists and editors to the highest quality content and reader experience in the industry.

Full Stack Innovation: You will engage in both front-end and back-end development, ensuring a comprehensive approach to projects. The team works with JavaScript and TypeScript across the full stack with Node.js and React.js. The platforms are designed to work with high-traffic and so experience in those environments is beneficial.

End-to-End Impact: You will take charge of projects from inception to deployment, gaining familiarity with the servers and infrastructure that underpin the codebase. Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly in AWS, is instrumental in driving success.

Testing: You will also be a key player in maintaining and improving code quality. Embrace the challenge of robust testing practices, showcasing a commitment to delivering reliable and resilient solutions.

Lead by example: You will be technical leader in the team, taking initiative in driving the direction and strategy while remaining a key contributor.

Mature Codebase Enhancement: You will take on the challenge of refining a mature codebase, emphasising continuous improvement rather than starting afresh. Their focus is on evolving and optimising existing systems for sustained excellence with the use of emerging technologies.

User-Centric Collaboration: You will be actively engaging with the users of the platforms, collaborating to craft solutions that meet their needs. Contributions in this area directly impact user satisfaction and project success.
