Main purpose and scope of job:
The [ROLE] will lead the day-to-day finance function managing and developing a team focused on delivering regular (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual). The audience for the reporting will a  wide range of senior stakeholders reflecting My client’s’ capital base of listed infrastructure funds, UK PLC institutions, family office cap, and institutional debt providers.

This reporting will encompass management accounts, statutory accounts, loan covenant compliance and span well beyond the ‘core numbers’ into managing tax risk, procurement of renewable energy, controlling the working capital requirements of major capital programmes.

The successful candidate will be technically skilled and so comfortable explaining Group deferred tax treatments to the Finance Director of our largest shareholder, or to manage interest rate hedging with a global investment bank.

But equally important will be the energy and intellectual curiosity to learn about our business and take on challenges that may be unfamiliar (e.g. group insurance and risk), form effective partnerships with key contributors to financial outputs (e.g. the cost management team on construction projects or for capital allowances), and so gather and communicate the information needed for line reports to execute successfully.

Main duties and Responsibilities
 
1.

  • Ownership and development of the group finance function, including group reporting, management reporting, tax and treasury

2.

  • External reporting, including drafting of board packs and management of reporting to lenders, investors and other key external stakeholders

3.

  • Day-to-day relationships with lenders and funders, including covenant compliance and robust cash forecasting;

4.

  • Ownership of statutory accounts and tax filings in the UK and overseas;
  • Management of external audit and development and documentation of strong internal controls framework to support rapid future growth;

5.

  • Maintenance of up-to-date technical knowledge of IFRS within the team – ownership of group and subsidiary accounting policies;

6.

  • Treasury management, including hedging strategies

7.

  • Day-to-day purchases of energy (within framework of defined risk management strategy) and reporting on hedged position

8.

  • Day-to-day management of insurance programme including annual renewal

9.

  • Able to manage financial elements of HR (payroll, benefits, LTIPs etc)

10.

  • Build strong relationship with Head of Financial Planning to ensure consistency between reported historic numbers and forecast performance
  • Hold senior stakeholders across the business accountable for actual performance versus budget

11.

  • Management of due diligence processes when the company is raising capital

 

 

Essential/ Desirable Requirements

  1. Qualifications and Experience
  • ACA (or similar) with at least 7 years PQE
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Good systems skills (Netsuite familiarity an advantage)

  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS
  • Ability to dissect complex contractual documents in order to deliver the accounting treatment and ensure group revenues are maximised and costs minimised
  • Able to build processes that can be applied and followed by wider team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to bring the numbers to life for a wide range of stakeholders
