Chief Operating Officer
Chief Operating Officer – Indie Campers
Location: Portugal (Lisbon HQ)
Reports to: CEO (Hugo Oliveira)
Function: Executive Leadership | Full-Time
Company Overview
Indie Campers is Europe’s leading campervan rental and road trip provider, operating across 15+ countries with one of the largest vehicle fleets in the market. Having grown from a founder-led, bootstrapped business to a €130M GMV / €100M revenue company, Indie Campers is now embarking on its most ambitious chapter yet — scaling toward €500M+ revenue in the next 3–5 years.
The company is undergoing a strategic operational transformation. With a growing product portfolio — including vehicle subscriptions, van sales, insurance add-ons, and digital content services — the business is moving from fast-paced entrepreneurial execution to structured, scalable delivery. This is a high-performance, culturally unique environment with strong founder leadership, significant capital behind it, and minimal direct competition in the market.
The Opportunity
Indie Campers is hiring a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the company’s global commercial and operational strategy at a time of significant scale. The COO will act as a strategic partner to the CEO and board, responsible for building the infrastructure required to support growth to €500M+ while ensuring strong customer outcomes, operational consistency, and international alignment.
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires a rare blend of strategic thinking, operational depth, and cultural adaptability. The successful candidate will take ownership of the full P&L, lead cross-functional teams across Europe, and oversee the launch and delivery of new product lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead global operations across rental, fulfilment, fleet management, physical hubs, and customer experience
- Manage international P&L with clear accountability for profitability and payback
- Scale and professionalise the delivery model across 5+ markets and multiple business units
- Design and implement operational frameworks, KPIs, and reporting systems to drive data-led decision-making
- Oversee the launch and integration of new product verticals, including:
- Vehicle subscriptions (recurring rental model)
- Certified used van sales (B2C and B2B)
- Insurance and roadside services (bundled and upsold)
- Travel content and camper accessories (digital and physical add-ons)
- Lead organisational design and team scaling, developing country-level and regional leaders
- Collaborate with Product, Finance, Tech and Marketing to drive customer-centric process improvements
- Represent operations in board settings, and support investor engagement and strategic initiatives (M&A, fundraising)
